Thank you Brooke Thomas for sharing our message. Check out this great video to understand The Kid's mission.
Jeremiah Wright, also known as "The Kid", a nickname given to him since birth, is a very spunky, eclectic, and bright second grader. As a participant in his school’s Black Student Achievement Program, "The Kid" was inspired to raise a variety of diverse books that can represent him and other minority students at his school. Before this, he realized that there weren’t many books that portrayed characters that he could identify with. After discussing this matter with his mother he asked if he could start donating some books to the organization. And just like that, with the help and support of family and friends, "The Kid" was able to obtain over 150 books for the school’s library in 30 days!
In honor of his great accomplishment, the school has renamed its library to 'Jeremiah’s Library'. In addition to this, he has been awarded 'The Principal's Award' three years in a row. He recently took the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test scoring a 116, placing him in the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Gifted and Talented Program for Advanced Learning Options. "The Kid" doesn’t stop there!
Outside of Jeremiah’s academics he is engaged in his extracurricular activities. When Jeremiah is not in the classroom he plays tackle football with the South Bay 49ers 8U League, loves skateboarding, basketball, and playing Roblox.
"The Kid" is an activist at heart- he is compassionate and susceptible to the injustices and equality of all children. After finding out about the book bans across several schools in the country his new goal is to ensure that kids everywhere have access to all books. Jeremiah believes that reading is a gift and allows children to have the ability to be creative. When he gets older, he wants to attend the University of Southern California-Los Angeles and play football in the NFL. The Kid also wants to have the biggest YouTube channel ever! The channel his mom won't allow him to have yet. Right now he is focused on helping others and just being THE KID!
It all started with an idea! Since Jeremiah started raising books for his school, the love and support has been huge. We have raised over 300 books since February. Good Morning America has its own special book club. If selected Jeremiah (The Kid) would be able to spread his message nationwide. Please nominate him below. Thank you!
